During the years of hardship in Germany it became customary for organizations to create their own currency, some semi-official and others just for fundraising purposes. No matter the particular usage for these banknotes, they all had one thing in common, the rich and beautiful design. Many of them are pieces of art.
Nationalsozialistischer Arbeiterverein (c. 1920) Issued by the subsidary of the NSDAP, the NSDAV, for raising funds to purchase the newspaper Münchener Beobachter from the Thule Society in 1920, the newspaper was renamed shortly after to the Völkischer Beobachter. This Promissory note was worth 10 Mark. The banknote bears the facsimile signatures of a few early members of the DAP/NSDAP, like Anton Drexler, Karl Harrer and Joseph Berchtold.
Deutscher Turnerbund 1919 (June 1920) A very decorative gutschein from the German Gymnastics Organization in Austria. The emergency bill has the value of 20 heller.
Deutschvölkischer Schutz- und Trutzbund (1920) The organisation was founded for the purpose of fighting judaism, during a meeting of the Alldeutscher Verband in Bamberg in February 1919. These coupons had the value of 50 Pfennig each, and was printed by the Ortsgruppe Rudolstadt in 1920.
